2011/12 Season

Molly Smith

Continuing the success of our record-setting inaugural season, I am thrilled to present Arena Stage’s 2011/12 season at the Mead Center for American Theater. True to our mission, the coming season delves into all that is passionate, exuberant, profound, deep and dangerous in the American spirit. Together, we will explore the rich legacy of American theater, past, present and future. Amidst compelling modern works and simmering world premieres, we pay tribute to the first true American giant, Eugene O’Neill, with a festival of his iconic works. Expanding to eight productions, with three available add-on plays, the 2011/12 season presents a diversity of styles and voices that are uniquely American. Subscribe today and be a part of an Arena Stage season that will entertain, challenge and reward you. We’re going to have a marvelous time.

Please Note: For each production, Arena Stage sets aside a substantial amount of tickets for our various discount and access programs. Due to the popularity of our productions, often these tickets are sold out well in advance of a performance date. To secure the best possible prices, we encourage our patrons to purchase tickets a minimum of two months in advance of their preferred performance date.

For Harold Hill, there’s a sucker born every minute. Sooner or later, this smooth-talking “Professor” has everyone eating out of the palm of his hand – and the citizens of River City, Iowa are his latest mark. When local librarian Marian Paroo tries to expose him as a swindler, Hill sets out to win her heart and save his hide. Will the town get wise to Hill before he steals their savings or will Marian make an honest man out of him?

Artistic Director Molly Smith brings her no-nonsense freshness that made Oklahoma! an audience favorite to five-time Tony Award winner, The Music Man. Starring Burke Moses (original Gaston in Broadway’s Beauty and the Beast) and Tony Award nominee, Kate Baldwin (Finian’s Rainbow), this summer’s toe-tapping production, featuring all-time favorites “Ya Got Trouble,” “Goodnight Ladies,” “Shipoopi,” and “76 Trombones,” will put a spring in your step and a song in your heart.
