View from the Bridge, Arena has planned a
festival of audience enrichment events and
educational programs to broaden and deepen
understanding of Arthur Miller's humanity and
his art, as well as his lasting contribution to
American literary and political landscapes.
Arena Stage believes in not only developing and
producing American work, but also in creating an
environment, a center for the study of the
American theatrical canon, that will enlarge our
discourse about the value of theater to the 21st
century. Held on consecutive Monday evenings,
Arena Stage will host the following events to
the public with no admission charges.
Film Screening: "Miller, Kazan and the Black
List: None Without Sin," an American Masters
Film
Monday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the AFI
Silver Theatre

Spring, MD
This 2003 Thirteen/WNET New York PBS documentary
film chronicles the men's experiences with the
House Un-American Activities Committee and
discusses the emergence of Death of a Salesman
and A View from the Bridge during this time.
This documentary, which places Miller in the
context of the larger political world and the
McCarthy "witch hunts," will include a post-film
discussion with political leaders, film
historians and local scholars. Reservations must

Panel Discussion: "The Political Impact of
Arthur Miller on 21st Century American Theater"

Arena Stage and Georgetown University will
co-host a panel discussion that includes
Playwright Emily Mann, Artistic Director of the
McCarter Theatre; Pulitzer Prize-winning
playwright David Henry Hwang; and Ari Roth,
playwright and Artistic Director of Theater J.
Arena Stage Senior Dramaturg Mark Bly will serve

Reading of Selected Arthur Miller Prose Works
Monday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Georgetown
Performing Arts Center
37th and O Streets, NW, Washington, D.C.
This reading will include selections from
Miller's autobiography Time Bends; his 2001 NEH
Washington, DC speech "On Politics and the Art
of Acting;" his essay "Tragedy and The Common
Man;" his Foreword to the Arena Stage 40th
Anniversary Book; letters from Miller to Lee J.
Cobb and Elia Kazan; and excerpts from Miller's
book Salesman in Beijing. Designed to explore
Arthur Miller the man - from playwright, to
politics, to his personal life, this reading
will be directed by Georgetown University
Theater Program Director Derek Goldman.

In the spirit of artistic and literary salons of
the past, Arena Stage will feature a lively,
in-depth conversation with Molly Smith, Daniel
Aukin, Timothy Bond and the audience. The Salon
is free to Arena Stage subscribers and donors
($75+), and only $3 for the general public.
